Latest News from Resurrection Catholic Church

Dear Parishioners,

We are people who want to know the latest news and in the quickest way possible and it is a fact, that we are deluged by all kinds of news from all parts of the world almost instantly. Sometimes with all this overwhelming and at times stultifying news, we get something that strikes us; some new revelation that we haven't heard or remembered from many years ago.

Prior to the coming of Jesus, God did reveal himself in many ways especially through the prophets. As St. Paul said: “In these last days, He has revealed himself to us.” Today, the Church celebrates a special feast which we call the Epiphany, that is, the revelation of the Son of God made man to the non - Jewish people, that is, to the Gentiles - to all of us. We, 2000 years after Jesus ... Read More »

Dear Advent friends,

It is truly a humbling experience to read back through the Old Testament and see how frail and imperfect all the "heroes" actually are. Abraham, the coward who cannot believe the promise. Jacob, the cheat who struggles with everybody. Joseph, the immature and arrogant teen. Moses, the impatient murderer who cannot wait for God. Gideon, the cowardly Baal-worshipper. Samson, the womanizing drunk. David, the power abusing adulterer. Solomon, the unwise wise man. Hezekiah, the reforming king who could not quite go far enou ... Read More »

Dear Parishioners,

There was a time in this country when employers had all the power. They set the wages, the hours, and the working conditions. The employees had no say in the matter. They either agreed to the demands of their employer or they looked for work elsewhere. Naturally, this resulted in many abuses at the hands of those in power. Thank goodness that didn't go on forever. Even children negotiate the terms of the games they play

These details are best worked out before the game even begins. Othe ... Read More »

Thank you, my dear people of God for being who you are - children of God living as a wondeful community of faith, love and service called Resurrection Parish. Everyday when I wake up, I thank God for the gift of life and being able to serve Him through you. I thank Him also for all that you do for me with your prayers, assistance, and love. I am not worthy of these and other gifts that God has bestowed upon me, especially for making me a Christian, religious and priest and your Pastor.  I can only repay you with my prayerful service and forever praise God.

Fr. Alex

P.S.
The Sunday after this National Holiday we begin the Holy Season of Advent - four weeks to prepare ourselves to celebrate the birth of Jesus. I am sure with the hustle and bustle of the Christmas Season, we will find time for Jesus. D ... Read More »

Dear Parishioners,

Jesus as King

is something we rarely think about anymore. That's what this day helps us do. You see, when we reflect on Christ as our King it forces us to ask a very important question. Who is in charge? Who's in charge of my decisions, my priorities, my values, my actions, my very life? Who's calling the shots? It's hard to let someone else be in charge of us. It's one of the reasons why so Read More »

Dear Parishioners,

Our Scripture readings today can give us some good ideas of what we should want as our legacy. The first reading, from the Book of Proverbs, tells of the ideal woman, gifted not just with physical attributes, but with gifts of ingenuity, hard work, generosity and love of others. She is presented as a model of what is possible when someone uses their gifts and skills well. The point of the reading lies not in the fact ... Read More »

Dear Parishioners,

As you know, one of the most popular travel destinations for Americans is Mexico. The first time I took a bus in Mexico something strange happened. I noticed that periodically people riding the bus would make the sign of the cross. At first I thought it was pretty neat that so many were praying on their way to work or school or wherever. But then I noticed that the people on the bus were making th ... Read More »

Dear Parishioners,

How wonderful it is to be able to gather with you this Sunday and celebrate the Feast of All Souls,
a day the Church sets aside for us to pray for, remember, and give thanks to God for our loved ones who have died --- the men and women who have meant the most to us, and who have gone before us in faith.

This month of November dedicated to All Souls,  starts off with the feast of ALL SAINTS. Jesus did invite us to be holy as His heavenly Father is holy. In last Sunday 's Gospel, you remember  the answer that Jesus gave  to the question about the greatest Commandment in the law. I asked a teenager the same question and he said: "You shall obey your mother, you shall obey your father and you shall obey your big sister." I  thought  that answer would get him started on the way to holiness. I am certain that you are trying to do better than that!

During this month we remember, we pray and we praise God for all ... Read More »

Dear Parishioners,

To the faithful of the Diocese of Orlando. I encourage you to support the second collection for Catholic Charities of Central Florida that is scheduled for next weekend, November 1-2.This year, more than 30,000 families will look to Catholic Charities’ emergency assistance for a helping hand to nourish and support them in numerous ways. Many are the working poor who have never before sought help from us. Since we do not help people because they're Catholic but because we are Catholic, 70% of those seeking help at Catholic Charities are non-Catholics. For most, Catholic Charities is their only alternative. The first encounter of the needy within our 90 parishes and missions in nine counties of Central Florida is often through Catholic Charities. This collection will not fund general overh ... Read More »
